Zen Poems by Dogen

Mind’s no solid

One can touch or see-

Dew, frost

– Dogen

There in midnight water,

Waveless, windless,

The old boat’s swamped

With moonlight.

– Dogen

The World? Moonlit

Drops shaken

From the crane’s bill

– Dogen

From Zen Poems of China and Japan
Translated by Lucien Stryk and Takashi Ikemoto
