Swami Vivekananda was born in Calcutta, India, in 1893 and became a great disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. He was one of India's leading social reformers, a champion of humanitarism and service to God through service to others. Vivekananda forged the unity of East and West, all within the brief period of ten years.
