Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep
Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.

In 1995 a BBC radio programme conducted a survey to find the nations favourite poem. They decided the nations most favourite poems was "Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep".
The poem was left in an envelope for the parents of a British solder, Steven Cummings, killed in Northern Ireland. After being brought to light the poem became extraordinarily popular. However the poem is at least 70 years old and various people have claimed authorship. The most commonly attributed author is Mary Fyre.
